W: Excuse me. Is the office closing?
M: It usually closes at five thirty, but it will close at six thirty. You needn’t hurry.
Text 2
W: When can we expect you for dinner? Can you come tonight?
M: Not tonight. I promised to go to a concert with my sister.

第二節(jié)
Text 6
W: What are you going to do for one year abroad, Henry?
M: Study. I want to broaden my views. I am going to take college courses.
W: What kind of courses? Do you want to study physics?
M: No, I’d like to major in medicine, though my parents expect me to study law.
W: Won’t you get lonely?
M: Hey, I am a pretty cool guy. I will make friends, and I’ll take part in after-class activities, too.
W: OK. Wish you good luck.
M: Thank you.
Text 7
W: I’m not myself these days. What’s wrong with me?
M: Nothing serious! But you should pay attention to your weight.
W: Okay, what should I do?
M: You’d better eat more vegetables and fruits, as well as food full of energy and fiber.
W: Oh, NO! I prefer oily food and sweet cakes, especially chocolate.
M: Well, you should eat less of them. Physical exercise can make your body strong. And try not to stay up late.
W: All right. I’ll try to follow your advice. Thank you, doctor.
Text 8
M: Ok, honey, time to take down the Christmas tree.
W: Do we have to?
M: Come on, it’s falling apart and losing needles all the time.
W: It’s not that bad. Besides, it really looks nice in that corner.
M: But Christmas was two weeks ago! It’s been there only because we’ve been too busy to get rid of it.
W: I know, I know. But it reminds me of the great Christmas we just had. All of us were here -- my parents, your parents, the kids, and the cousins — the food was good, and everybody got what they wanted. All good memories.
M: Yeah, it was a good Christmas. It won’t always be this good, but we can’t make it last longer than it should.
W: Ok, fine. You have a point there.
M: We’ll leave it up until Sunday, and then we’ll take it down after we are back from church.
W: That’s a deal. Now it’s time to leave for the cinema.
Text 9
M: Hi, Daisy!
W: Hi Simon. I hope you are getting on well at school.
M: I am. I’ve made lots of friends and I really enjoy my courses.
W: Great! Me too! What attracted you to our university?
M: I like the school gym, especially the swimming pool.
W: Yes, the basketball and football teams are also very good. Oh, you didn’t tell me what you are studying here.
M: I’m doing business studies. I suppose I might get a job in Toronto where my parents are living after graduating.
W: What about your friend Zoe?
M: She is from Sydney. Her father runs a hotel business in Canberra and she is doing a degree in Math. What about you, Daisy?
W: I’m studying law.
M: Great! So I’ll know who to call if I ever need a lawyer.
W: Sure, anytime, after I get my license.
Text 10
Many people catch a cold in the springtime or fall, but why can’t scientists find a cure for the common cold? The answer is easy. There are so many kinds of cold viruses that there isn’t a cure for each one. When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. Blood rushes to your nose and you can’t breathe well, but your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature rises and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a running nose to stop the virus from getting to your cells. You may feel miserable, but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold. Different people have different methods to feel better. Americans might eat chicken soup to feel better. Germans take hot baths and drink warm liquids. Other people take medicine to relieve various symptoms of colds. There's one interesting thing to note. Some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn’t develop a way to fight it and kill it.
